Hoshin
Kanri is an annual business planning and management system.
The word Hoshin describes both a process and
a specific product. As an organizational process, Hoshin
manages company efforts and aligns company resources for
the purpose of addressing business needs effectively and
efficiently. As a specific product, Hoshin is an organization-specific
document that details business goals (with targets) and
the means for achieving those goals. Hoshin focuses on process
as well as results. Kanri means management,
specifically managing to the Hoshin when applied to the
context of Hoshin Kanri. Together, Hoshin Kanri means a
management system. Integral to the Hoshin process is problem
solving and the concepts of Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA).
